RULES & SAFETY

USAT Rules: Standard USAT rules regarding helmets, walking bikes in transition until mount / dismount point, cutting the course, shall be applied.  The event will not have USAT race officials.

Wetsuit rules: The race will abide by USAT wetsuit rules.  Water Temperature 78 or < = permitted, water Temperature > 78 degrees – < 84 degrees = permitted, but ineligible for awards, Water Temperature 84 degrees or > = Wetsuits not permitted.

Bike Helmet: An approved bike helmet must be strapped and worn at all times while in possession of your bike, including walking in / out of transition and at all times while riding.  NON Bike Helmets (climbing, etc.) are NOT permitted.

Relay: Each member of the relay completes their segment of the same course as the Triathlon.  After each segment in transition the timing ankle bracelet will be transferred to the athlete doing the next segment.  This transfer must occur at the relay team’s station in transition.   Please note relays and any mix of gender are all competing in the same category.  

Drafting: The race is Not draft legal.

Headphones / Phones: Headphones and the use of your phones during any segment of the race, including the bike and run are strictly prohibited.  Athletes wearing headphones cannot hear other athletes or racecourse officials and can create a safety hazard. 

Abandonment: If you need to withdraw from the race for any reason, please return to the finish line area and turn in your timing chip and indicate that you have withdrawn.  If you withdraw while on the bike, please do not return against traffic.

Weather Delays: If the weather does not permit an on-time start at 7:00 AM, mainly due to lightning or comparable severe weather, the race start will be delayed in 30-minute increments until 8:00 AM.  If the race is unable to start at 8:00 AM but can be started by 8:30 AM, the event will be converted to an Aquabike, Bike-Run, or Duathlon Format, or other format, likely shortened course.  If the race is unable to start by 8:30 AM the event will be cancelled.

Water Quality: If the water quality does not meet required standards the race will be converted into a Duathlon.  

Spectators: The race is very spectator friendly.  Details for spectating will be included in the Athletes’ Guide when it is released. 

Gender Rules: The 2025 race will abide by recently announced World Triathlon rules regarding competition categories and eligibility regulations. WTC Rules.

Please Note: There is NO day-of registration. for the Fontana Triathlon on Geneva Lake.
