What do I do if I do nott have the following:
- Race Bib Belt: We recommend having a tshirt at the T1 (Transition 1) at your handle bars. Put your bib on your shirt (safety pin) prior you start the race so when you get out of the water all you need to do is put on your shirt and magically the bib is on it. You do not want to be putting on bib during race. We sell Race Bib Belts for $10 at Packet Pickup if you do not have one.
- Tri Suit: A Trisuit is a waterproof suit people use for under their wetsuit. This suit is used during the bike and run. If you do not have one you can either rent or borrow one or like around 50% of the racers just use a pair of shorts or swim suit you can comfortably bike and run in. Tri Suits are not required and though will improve your experience are not used by all racers.
- Wetsuits: Pool swims do not allow wet suits. If you are in a lake swim like Bear Lake Brawl Triathlon or Southern Utah Triathlon we strongly recommend them. Wetsuits have two primary purposes. One they keep you warm and two they give you extra buoyancy or floating ability. For this reason it is strongly recommended to use one but do some training with one prior to race day. Many train only in the pool without wetsuit. Very different being in open water floating higher on the water, colder water and the wetsuits can constrict your chest giving you less Oxygen. If you do not have a wetsuit you can rent or borrow one or go without. USAT allows wetsuits in water temps below 78 degrees. Though under 65 degrees wetsuits are not required they are strongly encouraged. Under 58 degrees wetsuits are required. We have never been below 58 but at Bear Lake Brawl Triathlon we have been close and the air temps well below that. Strongly encouraged.
- Helmet: If you do not have a helmet you cannot compete. Go to your closest bike shop to buy one or even Walmart to satisfy the requirement.
- Bike Tubes: It is recommend to have bike tubes and a hand pump. Check your pressure prior to race day and do not start your race with old tubes. Though we have a support vehicle with tubes and air this vehicle(s) takes time to round the course and may even miss you. If you do not have them you can call them and they will come race day. Sometimes other cyclists will have some but they generally have enough for themselves.
- Road Bike: A Road Bike is not required for triathlon however a mountain bike or other type of bike may be much slower. You can rent or borrow a road bike to help improve your times.
