Day before

Transition Zone Prep

Details

On Friday September 16th, the transition zone will need to be prepared. Each racer/racing team will have a parking lot space for their bike to be dropped off at on race day morning. Each parking lot space will need to be numbered with duck tape. Arrows will also need to be taped to the parking lot indicating direction of travel.

Race Course Prep

Details

On Friday September 16th and Saturday the 17th, all of the race course markers will need to be set. Volunteers can assist in one or more of the following:

-On Friday the 16th, set up the start line for the boat race and the kilometer markers along the route.
-On Friday the 16th, mark along the road bike and running course where signs will be placed. This will be done using a map given to the volunteer and spray paint.
-On Saturday the 17th at 8:00 am, post signs along the road bike and running course where marked the day previous. A map will be provided to volunteers.
-On Friday the 16th, place mountain bike course markings.
-On Friday the 16th, mark where signs will be placed along the 4k route. A map and spray paint will be provided to volunteers.
-On Saturday the 17th at 8:00 am, place signs along the 4k route where marked. A map will be provided to volunteers.

Bib Pickup and Race Registration

Details

There will be three opportunities for bib pick up.
-On Friday September 16th, bib pick up will be available at the Red Wing Bicycle Company in downtown Red Wing from 12:00pm - 7:00pm
-On Saturday the 17th, Bib pick up and race day registration will be needed at Bay Point Park for the 4k racers. Volunteers will give racers their racing packet and go through needed information on getting to the start. Will be on site from 8:00am-10:00am
-On Saturday the 17th, Bib pick up and race day registration will be needed at Colvill Park for the Triathlon racers. Volunteers will give racers their racking packet and go through needed information on getting to the start and using the transition zone. Will be on site from 8:00am-10:00am

Race Day Needs

Transition Zone

Details

On Saturday the 17th, volunteers will be needed at the following times for the following activities.

-Pre race from 8:00-10:00
Volunteers will assist racers in finding their transition zone spot to place their bike. They will also show where the boaters will come out of the water, and where to dismount from their bike as they come in. They will also greet motorboat users on the boat ramp to greet them and let them know that racers will be using the boat ramp from roughly 10:30-12:00 as they plan for their day.

-From 10:15 - 12:30, volunteers will assist racers in landing at the boating dock and carry their boats to their parking spaces. Additional volunteers will be needed to guide racers through the transition zone and onto the bike course.

-From 11:00 - 1:00, volunteers will advise bikers to dismount from their bike before they enter the transition zone. Additional volunteers will be needed to guide racers through the transition zone and onto the running course (same start as the bike)

Photographers are needed throughout the race course. Photographs of the following are desired (with approximate times):

Pre-race through race start 4k&Tri: 9-10:15
4k route: 10:00-11:30
Finish: 11:30-2:30
Paddle route: 10:30-11:30
Transition zone: 10:30-1
Mountain Bike and Road Bike: 10:30-12:30
Running route: 11-3
Awards ceremony: 2-2:30

Details

Race day music will be at the Start/Finish area at Bay Point park as well as at the Transition Zone at Colvill park. Music will be on for the at Bay Point from 8:30 until the last racer comes through. Music will be on at Colvill from 8:30 until the last racer comes through the transition zone. Volunteers are needed for set up and take down. Donated gear (speakers) for the day is desired, power is provided.

Paddle Route

Motorized Boats

Details

Four motorized boats are desired for the boating portion of the course.

The top priority will be a boat to lead racers down the race course.

The next priority will be a boat to trail the racers and have emergency personnel on board

The last priority will be two boats to be anchored to hold the pennant flag start line. One or both of these boats could also trail the racers.

Details

Volunteers are needed at Bay Point Park from 9:00-10:00 to assist boaters getting into the water and direct them towards the start line. Volunteers are encouraged to have waders.

Location

Start at Bay Point Park for put in. Then when the race starts, move to Colvill to help racers at the paddle takeout.
