Description

The Atomic Half Iron, Sprint Triathlon / Duathlon & Olympic Triathlon return in 2025!   Wildlife abounds in this rural yet easily accessible area - beaver, deer, ground hogs, etc. Camping on-site and numerous hotels and restaurants within 5 miles in Lenoir City.

Location: TVA Melton Hill Dam area, directions below. Race walk through Friday at 6 PM at race site. Arrive at site Saturday no than 7 AM EST for ample time for parking, packet pickup and getting ready for event starting promptly at 8 AM EST.

PACKET PICKUP & LATE REGISTRATION- PICTURE ID REQUIRED

Friday, Sept 10th  - 5 PM - 6:30 PM at race site - see race location below.

Saturday - Race morning from 6:30 AM to 7:30 AM -  at race site.

Registration is open race morning! Relays MUST come together to pick-up packets - no exceptions.

Awards Ceremony will follow each events completion when Age Groups fill.  You must be present for the awards to receive them.  We will not ship them out, so please check with us before you leave.

PARKING: Lower lots below dam - walk up hill to transition. No boat ramp access for racers. You can come to the Upper bath house lot to drop-off gear / bike but no parking.  Parking is also available at the Overlook.

Note:  Half Iron participants will have the option to upgrade to a Hoodie Sweatshirt during registration.

SWIM Course Map- START INFORMATION- The swim is a wave start from just outside the swim area at the dam end. The course will be a two loop rectangle finishing on the beach of the swim area. Swimmers will STAY IN WATER TO COMPLETE LOOP ONE. EXIT ONLY AT END OF SECOND LOOP. Keep buoys to your Right. Follow flagging to transition area. Water temp approx. 73.

BIKE Course Map Ride starts from the bottom for first and last 7 miles and completes two loops of the top for a total of 56 miles. Two water bottle exchanges at 22 & 43 miles.

RUN Course Map- The run is a scenic route through the TVA park, right on Woodlawn Road to left on Buttermilk, (Cones will mark course side of road – stay near cones to avoid cars). Follow to left on Davis Road to turnaround at Rocky Top Road. Return back same route to first loop turnaround just inside park. Runners will pass 14 aid stations on the two-loop course. Each will be will be ready with Base Performance, oranges, Hammer Gel, pretzels, water and ice. Race number will be marked at the three turn-arounds.

Note for the Half Iron: we are instituting "cut off times" for the safety of participants, volunteers and support staff - limits noted are from the start of final starter: swim 1:15, bike 5:15 hours, run 1/2 way point 7:15 - finish line, music, etc. will be in place for all finishers - venue tear-down may begin depending on severe weather forecast, as in past years. Safety is our first priority. 

Sprint/Olympic Triathlon info:

Choose either the Sprint Triathlon 500 meter Swim, 18.6 mile Bike, and 5k run or Olympic Triathlon 1500 meter swim, 40k Bike and 10k run.

Duathlon Info:

The Sprint Duathlon will be a 5k Run, 18.6 mile Bike and a 5k Run.

Melton Hill Campground - Campground is right across park access road from transition and finish area. The availability of sites should be good being early October. Here is a link to reservations for the Campground.

Athlete Amenities - race packets will include: 50-50 long sleeve hoodie t-shirt, water bottle, swim cap (tris - must be worn). FINISHER MEDALS for all finishers. Post race food & door prizes from sponsors to be announced.  

Bald Eagle Events has enabled event insurance for your consideration in the event you are unable to compete. Please review this option during the registration process. 

All Bald Eagle Events triathlon events are sanctioned by USA Triathlon. When a race sanctions with USAT, it is required for each participant to purchase either a one-day license or annual membership in order to participate in said event. A one-day USAT license is $15 and an annual USAT membership is $50. Either can be purchased when signing up for the event. A youth one day or annual USAT license is $10. Bald Eagle Events has a NO REFUND policy. This is based on our policy to provide 15% of GROSS REVENUES to our charity partners. Insurance is available during the registration of each event. Please take advantage of this option should you wish to insure your entry fees.

Event Cancellation / Modification Policy - If Natural Disaster or Community Disaster occurs, our action steps are as follows:

1. Bald Eagle Events in concert with local officials will make decisions based on safety first. 2. Courses and/or race segments will be altered as agreed to between Bald Eagle Events and local officials 3. Financial: It is not financially feasible for Bald Eagle Events to accept the risk of a disaster for everyone. Each registered participant needs to accept the risk of his or her entry fee. There will be NO REFUNDS or free entries to future races. The money you paid is spent developing the subject event. 4. Bald Eagle Events do not save any money if one of our events has to be canceled for reasons beyond our control. All supplies and services needed for the events are purchased and/or arranged in advance. All event supplies and services associated with that event must be paid for, regardless of the outcome.

Event Shirts - Event shirts are NOT guaranteed to participants registering within 2 weeks of each event. Please register prior to 2 weeks prior to guarantee your race shirt.
