How the Series Works
Overview
This race is part of the 2024 NorCal Youth State Series and the 2024 Bay Area Kids Triathlon Series.
We re-started the Bay Area Kids Triathlon Series in order to encourage local youth to participate more in endurance sports and to help local charities. USA Triathlon launched their Youth State Series this year to encourage youth and junior athletes to participate in events locally and increase the opportunities for them to race more often alongside their peers. There are several great youth triathlons in our area with the opportunity for our next generation of triathletes to experience many of them as part of these series.
2024 Bay Area Kids Triathlon Series consists of the following events:
Sunnyvale Youth Splash and Dash - May 19th (sold out)
Menlo Park Kids Triathlon - June 2nd
Silicon Valley Kids Triathlon - July 14th
Tri Santa Cruz - Aug 11th
Scoring Model
Each race, no matter the multisport format, will give you the opportunity to add to your score. The 1st place athlete in each age group will receive 50 points, and each place behind that will receive 2 points less. Everyone placing in places past 25th will receive 2 points.
Individual Age Groups
Series scoring will be done by single age age groups (ex: 7 year old females, 7 year old males, 8 year old females, 8 year old males, etc.) Your age is calculated as your END OF YEAR age.
Bay Area Kids Triathlon Series Awards
For athletes doing two or more Super-Sprints, the top 2 scores for each individual will be added together and the top three skaters in each age group will count towards their series score. The award ceremony will take place at the Tri Santa Cruz race.
For athletes doing both the Menlo Park Kids Triathlon and the Silicon Valley Kids Triathlon, their scores for each event will be added together to determine the top three athletes in each age group. The award ceremony will take place at the Silicon Valley Kids Triathlon.
Since there is only one Duathlon and one Splash and Dash, they will not count for Bay Area Kids Triathlon Series awards.
NorCal Youth State Series Awards
Since there are more events in the State Series, the top 4 scores for each individual will count towards their series score. These 4 scores will be added together to create a cumulative score for the series.
All events will count regardless of format.
At the end of the series, the top 3 athletes in each individual age group will earn a series certificate from USA Triathlon. The winners of each age group will also be highlighted in the USA Triathlon Youth Magazine.
