2021 EVENT NOT TAKING PLACE - RACE TRANSFER OPTIONS
1/25/2021: The Parris Island 2021 Event will not take place. Due to the continuing Covid-19 situation in the US and due to ongoing military restrictions, the 2021 event will not be scheduled. With so many events being cancelled last year, we are considering many factors in making the decision on how to best work with you and make sure we aren't putting ourselves in a economic position from which we can't recover. Unfortunately, our initial hope of holding a 2021 event is not going to be an option.
With that said, for everyone registered in the 2020 event, we are offering you the ability to transfer your entry into any of the following events at a 50% credit based on your payment made into the Parris Island event.
Greenville Half Marathon & 5K (Greenville, SC) - February 27, 2021
Lake Murray Triathlon (Prosperity, SC) - April 18, 2021
SwimRun Hartness (Greenville, SC) - May 1, 2021
Mountains To Main Street Half Marathon & 5K (Greenville, SC) - May 15, 2021
Andy's Race (Greenville, SC) - August 8, 2021
Middle Tyger YMCA Triathlon (Duncan, SC) - September 4, 2021
The Edisto Island Triathlon (Edisto Island, SC) - October 30, 2021
Hartness Half Marathon & 5K (Greenville, SC) - TBD
Magic City Half Marathon & 5K (Birmingham, AL) - November 21, 2021
**More races and all SCTS will be added once 2021 dates can be set pending the Covid-19 situation, permitting and the ability to book venues. You can check here for updates along the way - www.southcarolinatriathlonseries.com**
A few notes about this plan:
1. The deadline to make any changes is October 1, 2021. You have until that time to use your race transfer. After this time the transfer system will shut off, you forfeit your entry fees and the ability to make any additional changes or transfers.
2. All changes must be done through your RunSignup profile used to register. Once you log in follow these steps: Navigate to Profile > Upcoming Events > Select Parris Island (10/1/2021) > Manage Registration > Transfer To Another Race.
3. This option only applies to those that registered and paid for the 2020 Parris Island Triathlon as well as those that chose to defer to 2021.
We understand this plan is not perfect, and it is the best plan we can manage right now. Even though the event has a very clear no refunds policy, we feel we have to do something to help you receive some value for the money you paid for this event. If for any reason this plan is simply unacceptable to you, please email directly at jdavis@setupevents.com and we will figure something out for your individual circumstance.
Again, thank you for choosing to be part of our race series. We are looking forward to getting back to racing on a more regular basis and seeing you all very soon.

SWIM: 500 Meters (Pool)
BIKE: 10 Miles
RUN: 5 Kilometers
Parris Island starts the South Carolina Triathlon Series season in a big way. Triathletes from all over the nation come to test their early season training at the flat and fast course.
The 500 meter swim is held in the Parris Island Military Combat Training pool. In order to keep the marines warm during hours of water training the water temperature is in the mid 80's. Swimmers will begin one at a time every 10 seconds swimming down and back in each lane before changing lanes. A simple rule of thumb here is that all lane changes are made at the same side of the pool where you begin.
The bike is a fast 10 mile course. Depending on the wind you may find a few sections of headwind and a few sections of tail wind. Either way this is a great chance to see just how fast you can go on a bike.
The run course also is flat and fast. A very simple out and back 5K course. All turns are marked on the pavement. The course is mostly closed to traffic.
For the majority of the marines in the US as well as the SCTS Triathletes, Parris Island truly is "Where it all Begins".

SCTS rules state that once you compete in a particular race category in a SCTS race - you must remain in that same category for all future SCTS races in that calendar year. The exceptions to this rule are the Aquabike, Novice and Weight categories. You may begin the year as a Novice and then switch into another qualifying category (ie: Age Group, Clydesdale). For Weight categories (Clydesdale 220+, Master Clydesdale 220+ and Athena 165+) it allows for you to drop to Age Group if you go below the weight limit for the category. If you switch to Aquabike you can switch back to your previous category at any time without penalty.
Below is a brief description of each race category:
Open - Category for Elite participants. These are typically the fastest people in the race and they compete on an Elite/Professional level.
Age Group - Participants competing in their age group.
Clydesdale - Category for participants who are over 220 lbs.
Master Clydesdale - Category for participants who are over 220 lbs. and are 40 or over.
Athena - Category for women over 165 lbs.
Aquabike - Category for participants doing the Swim and the Bike only. Your race ends when you cross the Bike Finish mat.
Aquathlon - Category for participants doing the Swim and the Run only.
Novice - Category for beginner participants. Participants competing as a Novice have usually done less than 3 events. No age restrictions.
NOTE: You may fit into one or more of the above categories, so whichever category you choose to compete in is completely your choice. Choose the category that you feel you would have the most fun competing in.

USAT Rules/Info

USAT INFORMATION:
ALL USAT members must show proof of a current membership at packet pickup. If you have recently renewed a membership, then you MUST print out a temporary card or receipt of payment (that shows the length of the membership period) to show at packet pick up. We will not take your word for it that your membership is current; you must SHOW us. Failure to do so will result in having to pay the one-day fee of $15.
CLICK HERE to be taken to the USAT website where you can renew your membership or print out a temporary card. You can also renew your membership at packet pick up if that's easier for you.
If I entered my USAT information when I registered, then why do I need to show my card at packet pick up? USAT rules state that all USAT members must show a valid membership card at packet pick up and failure to do so will result in having to pay the 1-day fee. Our events are sanction by USAT, therefore, we must follow these rules.
USAT's "Age Up" Policy:
An athlete's age for any USAT sanctioned race will be his/her age as of Dec. 31 of the current race year. The age he/she is on 12/31 will determine his/her racing age group. If an athlete is due to "age-up" into the next group, it will happen at the beginning of the year, not after the athlete's birthday. This action aligns regular U.S. age group racing with the method used by USA Triathlon for its National Rankings Program and its new Grand Prix Series.
Examples:
- John Smith is 39 and will turn 40 on November 20, 2020. John will be considered 40 for all 2020 races - and will race in the 40-44 age group at all 2020 races.
- Sally Jones is 29 and will turn 30 on July 3, 2020. Sally will be considered 30 for all 2020 races - and will race in the 30-34 age group at all 2020 races.
Inclement Weather Policy
In the event of inclement weather the following procedures will be followed:
The event will be postponed in hopes the inclement weather will pass. If the inclement weather does not pass in time to complete the event safely in the original or modified format, the event will be canceled. If the weather passes and the event cannot be held within the permitted time limits, the event will be changed to a duathlon format and possibly modified in length to meet these restrictions.
Every effort will be made to hold this event on time on this date. Should this event be canceled due to an Act of God or other circumstance beyond the race directors control there will be no refunds, credits, or transfers.
NO EXCEPTIONS will be made to this policy.
By registering for this event you agree to this weather policy.
