Description

NCARS is back in action for more adventures in Uwharrie Mountains. As always the 18 hour race will push the elite teams while also providing the overnight experience that new teams need in preparation for the longer races.

Teams of 1-4 will paddle, trek by foot through the backwoods of the Uwharrie Mountains. Mountain bike through some beautiful scenery in this overnight race.Bring your lights!! 

 

Gear

Boats: 
Each team/ solo racers needs to either
1) Provide their own kayak / canoe or
2) Rent through NCARS (see "add-on options" during registration)
*There will be a limited number of boats for rent — first come, first served.
Required individual gear:
A functional MOUNTAIN bike; no road or cycle cross bikes
CPSC marked bicycling helmet on any bike, ropes section and moving water class 3 or greaterType I, II, or III PFD while paddling (Blinking Red or White light on 1 person in boat)
Light stick on PFD if paddling between sunset and sunrise
Food and fluids to last the duration of the race
A pen/ pencil/ sharpie
Knife
Whistle
Individual headlight with extra batteries
Bike lights with extra batteries on the bike legs
Required Team gear:
Canoe or Kayak
UTM plotter with 1:24,000 scale (you may have to plot points)
Compass
Watch
Cell phone and waterproof case, just in case
Basic first aid kit
Blinking light while on the boat, Our suggestion if the person in the back of the boat wears a head lamp backwards.
Recommended Gear:
Appropriate clothing for all weather conditions
Waterproof map case
Water purification method
Spare bike tube, method of tire/tube inflation and bike repair kit

Race Day Schedule

  • 06:30am - Park Gates open

  • 09:30am - 10:30am Race Check-in at the group campground

  • 10:40am - Pre race meeting- to answer questions and update any changes

  • 11:00am - Saturday Race Start

  • 05:00am - Sunday Race Finish

If you are planning on camping out in the state park, book you site sooner then later. Morrow Mountain has gone and is still going through extensive renovations to the campgrounds so sites are limited.
