Stony Creek Metropark stands as a beacon of excellence in the world of multisport events, earning its place among the country's top 50 "Best of the Best" year after year. With a rich history of hosting championship events, it has solidified its reputation as the perfect venue for multisport competitions.
The decision to host Last Tri at Stony Creek & the Genesis event in May, alongside Motor City and the Michigan Championship events on Belle Isle, offers athletes a unique opportunity to tackle identical courses twice in a single season. Both locations boast flat, closed bike courses, providing ideal conditions for athletes to push their limits and achieve their best performances.
The lake at Stony Creek Metropark sets the stage for a challenging yet exhilarating swim leg. With its no-wake status and relatively shallow waters, it warms quickly, ensuring comfortable conditions for athletes. The swim course, carefully planned to minimize weed growth, promises a refreshing start to the race, with temperatures typically ranging from the upper 60s to low 70s.
On the bike leg, athletes will navigate a scenic 10k loop around the lake, characterized by a rolling profile that offers a mix of challenges and rewards. With the entire course lined with trees, participants can expect a sheltered ride, though the occasional windy day may add an extra element of excitement. With over 700 cones securing a closed course, athletes can focus solely on their performance, whether completing 1, 2, or 4 loops based on their chosen event.
The run course follows the 8-foot blacktop paved path encircling the lake, providing a smooth and scenic route for participants. For smaller events, an out-and-back course offers simplicity and convenience, while larger gatherings may feature a loop around the lake for Olympic distance athletes. With aid stations stocked with water and Gatorade Endurance Formula, athletes can stay hydrated and fueled as they push toward the finish line.
In summary, the Last TRI @ Stony Creek Metropark promises an unforgettable experience, combining the beauty of the natural surroundings with the thrill of multisport competition. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or a newcomer to the sport, join us on May 19th for a day of camaraderie, challenge, and triumph. Let the journey begin.
