Description

Staged out of beautiful General Smallwood State Park, this triathlon has beautiful, rolling courses and low traffic roads. The swim takes place in the Mattawoman Bay, known across the Nation as a prime example of what a fully restored Chesapeake Bay tributary looks like! After a quick run to the transition area, athletes will race along the rolling, freshly paved, low traffic roads of Charles County. Once you’ve laced up your running shoes, you’ll head back to the road for another scenic, rolling course with aid stations every mile.  The last mile of the course is amazing as you re-enter the park and cross over Mattowoman Bay just prior to the finish line and your fantastic post race BBQ.  Don’t miss out on this early season classic just a short drive from NOVA!

Race Comments

Be part of the great experience. Here are some comments from past General Smallwood's Triathlon races.

"Getting to meet some great people and challenging myself. The pre race emails were very helpful for a first time athlete. I want to also thank whomever is responsible for the quality recording if the national anthem."

"That it was close to home and wetsuit legal. Ha. You did a thorough job of marking the roads. I've done it numerous times and it was well marked."

"Staff helpfulness and friendliness—1st class Saved my morning after all my foul ups getting to race on time and getting organized and set up."

"You all did a great job helping athletes manage the heat yesterday. I'm a slower competitor and it was great that there was still ice and gatorade at the run stations even when I arrived. The post race food was very good--the shaved ice truck was an inspired touch--and I like the wooden medals and awards. Also, I like the shirt design and color."

Swim Start

Time Trial Swim Start: Kinetic Multisports races utilize a time trial swim start. We'll start two (2) athletes at a time every few seconds. Athletes line up based on swim and overall finish times, faster up front, slower in the back to create a smoother race for everyone.

Elite Box Start: In conjunction with our time trial swim starts we are excited to announce the official addition of the Elite Box Start at select races. If you are in contention to get Top 20 Overall Male/Female or just want to race up front, this is for you. Simply work your way to the front of the swim start area on race day. We'll get you lined up and started first, then athletes two at time every few seconds thereafter. The Elite Box Start concept worked well at many races last year and we are excited to add this feature to more races.
