Description
Join us for our inaugural WalkGood LA-Park to Playa Trail 5K. Whether you walk it or opt to run, this event brings neighborhoods, groups, families, and individuals outside together along the Park to Playa Trail at Kenneth State Recreational Area (KHSRA)—a key hub of the 13.5-mile urban nature trail connecting Baldwin Hills-View Park to the Pacific Ocean.
Build your team and be part of this exceptional walk/run event. The WalkGood LA-Park to Playa Trail 5K will mark the culmination of Park to Playa Trail-themed family- and community-targeted events and activities at KHSRA, Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook, Stoneview Nature Center, and Baldwin Hills & Urban Watersheds Conservancy in 2024.
Your participation directly supports WalkGood LA and its multi-tiered healing and wellness programs—including RunGood, HikeGood and BreatheGood—which are hosted both at Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Park and the recently opened WalkGood Yard wellness studio, to promote physical activity and movement, while bolstering a commitment to belonging, connection, and community. The race begins and ends at the majestic Olympic Forest in KHSRA; expect a slight incline to start, with a steeper hill about half-way through the trail.
Along the way, you’ll be treated to…
• An expansive natural environment with landscaped lawns, shrubs and native trees that canopy various areas of the park
• Waterfalls and a fishing lake with its community of turtles, lizards, geese, swans, and mallards
• “Citizen Seeds” by Kim Abeles; mixed-media sculptures representing Southern California native plants
• Janice’s Green Valley (locally known as “The Bowl”), the site of the 1963 Baldwin Hills Dam collapse
• Memorial Tree Grove honoring the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. overlooking downtown Los Angeles
• Views throughout Los Angeles and the Santa Monica Mountains, including the famed Hollywood sign
Plus…
• Early packet pickup at Stoneview Nature Center, plus race day packet pickup at KHSRA
• Water stations will be provided at various points throughout the trail
• Participants requiring assistance, walkers, and beginners should start from the back
• The event is chipped-timed for individual race accuracy
• Family-friendly activities, food and merchandising booths, plus natural areas and health/wellness stations will be available at the conclusion of the race
