Description
Huntsville Alabama's only open water swim youth triathlon! The race is held at the US Space and Rocket Center, Aviation Challenge.
The race starts with a swim in the Aviation Challenge "lake". The "lake" is really a large, man-made, chlorinated, rock-bottom swimming hole, but with no lane ropes or black lines along the way to guide young athletes. There will be plenty of support swimmers in the water to assist younger swimmers. (Mach 1 athletes may use provided pool noodles if needed.)
After a transition under the "bubble", in full view of bleacher spectator seating, athletes will set out to bike on roads which are completely closed to traffic. Their course takes them through a helicopter "graveyard" and on a scenic route up to the Botanical Gardens.
The run is held on a path around the lake, with a finish in full view of the covered spectator bleachers.
After the races are over, the event will finish up with post race food (free for participants) and presentation of awards. Prizes will be earned by the top three male and female finishers in each division. (Aging up or down is not allowed.)
Please see see the Schedule of Events for the race day timeline.
This is a USA Triathlon sanctioned event, directed by a USA Triathlon Certified Race Director therefore USAT membership is required. (Membership can be purchased at registration.)
