The Parks & Recreation Foundation of Johnson County is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that cultivates relationships and builds capacity for Johnson County Park and Recreation District and related philanthropic initiatives. Our mission is to promote the development and sustainability of parks, trails, green space, recreation, and the arts through advocacy and financial support. We believe in access and equity for all, and through a designated fund, seek to reduce barriers to participation for disadvantaged and underrepresented communities in the greater Kansas City area. Since 1977, we have preserved over 1600 acres of park land in the largest populated county in the state of Kansas. Currently we hold 229 acres for future park and recreation purposes and maintain an endowment through the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation.
