Training classes are a free benefit for Annapolis Striders members. In order to participate in this training class, you must have a current membership. You may become a member or renew an existing membership online. If you have signed up as a member (or are already a member), also register for the training with the registration method for upcoming session below. Training coaches will not accept membership sign-ups or training registrations in-person at training sessions.
We offer the following training:
Register for Spring Session (April-July) Register for Winter Session (November-February)
The Spring (starting in late April) and Winter (starting in late November) 5k Beginning Runners Program is a ten week run/walk program starting with a week one, 1 minute run, 2 minute walk over 20 minutes, three times a week with a gradual increase of running time of about 1 minute a week until week ten with a 20 minutes continuous run. Pre-run dynamic warm up exercises and walk with a post-run cool-down walk, static stretches are included. The graduation race goal is the Women’s Distance Festival and Run After the Women 5K (Spring-held in July) or the Valentine’s 5K (Winter-held in February) . Race fees are separate and NOT included in membership fees, and participation in those races is not required to join the training program.. A race preview run is available to participants the weekend before the race.
Register for Spring Session (April - June)
This low key program will guide participants from a base of 2 – 3 miles to a long run of 6 miles. This program typically targets the Annapolis Striders Dawson’s Father’s Day 10K (Spring) or the Cold Turkey 10K (Fall).
Register for Summer Session (July - August)
This low-key program will guide the participants from a base of 6 miles up to a long run of 10 miles in 7 weeks. The goal will be for all who complete the program to be able to complete the Annapolis 10 Mile Run that will start and finish at the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium.
A 12-week build-up program for half marathon runners.
This low-key program will guide the participants from a base of 6 miles up to a long run of 14 miles in 12 weeks. The goal will be for all who complete the program to be able to complete the B&A Trail Half Marathon or an alternative half marathon around the same timeframe. You must sign up for the race on your own. They CLOSE OUT so sign up early!
Come join our 17+ week Moore’s Marines Marine Corps Marathon Training Program targeting the Marine Corps Marathon (and training for the Baltimore Marathon and other marathons, too)!
Our target race is the Marine Corps Marathon (“MCM”). If you want to run Baltimore or another marathon let us know and we can adjust the plans for you. Regardless of which race you target, you must sign up ON YOUR OWN. This program does not give you entry into any race.
Our marathon training program is named for longtime Striders member Ben Moore, who originated the marathon training program in 1979 for the Annapolis Striders and trained many to run the Marine Corp Marathon.
Our Youth program, open to 5-9 year-olds and 10-14 year-olds that are members through a family membership or individually. This training program targets participation and completion of the John Wall Memorial One Mile Track Run.
