Niekro Foundation Aneurysm & AVM Awareness Virtual 5K

AVM, a tangle of blood vessels in your brain, is rare, potentially deadly, and debilitating. For Amelia the rupture of her AVM has caused three massive brain bleeds or hemorrhagic strokes. Along with her strokes (2018 and 2023) has been 2 very lengthy hospital stays, six brain surgeries, multiple rounds of radiation, and now, at age 13 Amelia handles disability/paralysis, other cognitive challenges and about 7-8 appts per week to re learn to walk and use her arm/hand and recover medically. 

It’s been one year since her most recent strokes and she wants to celebrate being a survivor! She’s out of her wheelchair and up for rockin a 5K walk. (Woohoo!) this will be a big feat for her!

As a rare disease, we only know that she was born with AVM and there’s very little known about any genetic or environmental cause. Children and people w aneurysm AVM and stroke suffer tremendously, and their families along with them. They need education and support, and Joe Neikro foundation does just that.
