I'm so excited to be running the Crescent City Classic this year as a charity runner, supporting Girls on the Run. I proudly ask that you consider supporting young girls across our community through this amazing organization as well. I completely understand if you cannot help, but even a dollar makes a difference. I have run this race for Girls on the Run since 2016 (minus the year that there was not an in-person race due to COVID), and I really enjoy it.
Girls on the Run is a local non-profit organization that goes far beyond running. It is the only national PA-PYD (physical activity-based positive youth development) program with external evidence of impact in girls. Girls on the Run teaches girls (3rd-8th grade) critical life skills needed for life success, through an experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates physical activity – thus combining social emotional learning, mental well-being, and physical activity. Our program cultivates the positive benefits of physical activity and movement while, at the same time, consciously addressing harmful habits like negative self-talk, poor self-esteem and more that are prevalent among adolescent girls and detrimental to their mental health. We do all of this to combat certain established realities for young women, including that only 21% of girls believe they have the skills to be successful leaders, physical activity levels in girls decline starting at age 10, and that their self-confidence begins to drop by age 9. Join me as I run to inspire, empower and motivate young girls! Thank you for your consideration in helping me raise money for GOTR.
