Hi! This spring, I'm excited to be participating in AAPI New Jersey’s Color Run! 🌈
As part of the race, we are raising money for AAPI New Jersey's Teach Asian American Stories (TAAS) initiative, which is dedicated to ensuring that all students in New Jersey grow up learning that Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are part of the fabric of our nation, and all AAPI children know they matter and belong.
In 2022, New Jersey passed a law requiring school districts “to provide instruction on history and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.” TAAS is making sure this incredible law doesn’t just stay on paper but comes to life in every classroom by training teachers, developing educational resources, and donating books by and about Asian Americans to schools across the state.
As a first-generation Filipina-American, this initiative means a lot to me after growing up in public school without learning about the AAPI community's history and culture. So I am excited to be able to fundraise for and support TAAS!
