Description

The race will take place at a venue that’s a first for us – and that’s saying a lot since we’ve produced well over 1,000 triathlons over the past 20+ years. It will be the first triathlon that we’ve produced that starts and finishes on the top of a mountain.

Hanging Rock State Park is located about 20 miles north of Winston-Salem and was created in the 1930s as a Civilian Conservation Corps projects – one of FDR’s many work related programs designed to provide jobs for the many affected by the great depression.

The picturesque lake sits near the top of the park so bikers will enjoy an 800 foot long descent over the first two miles. Unfortunately, that means that they finish the bike leg with an 800 foot long climb.

The park features 73 campground sites and a complex of cabins.  More than 20 miles of hiking trails provide spectacular views and weave alongside clear streams and waterfalls. There is access on the Dan River for paddling, 8.4 miles of mountain biking trails and rock climbing opportunities with permit.
