MedCycle EMS is an approved 501(c)(3) non-profit Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Bicycle Response Unit. We are staffed with NJ State Certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), licensed Paramedics, and (Emergency Room) licensed Registered Nurses whom also hold an EMT certification.
The primary objective of the program is to provide rapid response through congested areas, allowing Pre-Hospital EMS providers to arrive at the patient’s side faster than a traditional ambulance. The program also promotes safe bicycle riding and injury prevention to the public at various community service events throughout the year.
MedCycle EMS is unique, in that we are not only capable of providing fixed-station Medical assistance, but we are all, as our name suggests, Public Safety Cyclists. Our staff are certified by the International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA), which is the national standard for Police Bike Patrol.
We can provide the full scope of Basic Life Support (BLS) care with the exception of transport. Our EMS Bikes can provide medical care in areas that may be impossible or difficult for ambulances to reach. EMS Bikes are also are able to cover a much larger area than foot patrol with significantly more equipment and medications. We carry all the equipment and medications carried on an ambulance. Our EMS bikes can provide care without the need of calling an ambulance for many cases. Patients that require a visit to the ER, we can serve as a bridge until the ambulance arrives.
We are proud to say, that we never bill for patient assessments, supplied used, or medications administered. During our injury prevention community events, we supply handouts, preform ABC Quick Check, helmet fittings, and youth helmet giveaways. All of our service to the public are 100% free of charge.
