Dear Friends and Family,
I am excited to share that I am supporting Streets Are For Everyone (also known as SAFE), a nonprofit organization dedicated to making our streets safer for everyone. SAFE's mission is to reduce traffic fatalities and improve the quality of life for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike through education, advocacy, and community programs.
In 2023, Los Angeles faced a heartbreaking reality with a record number of traffic fatalities, exceeding even the number of homicides. We lost 336 lives, including 179 pedestrians—the highest number ever recorded. This is a public health crisis that demands our attention and action.
I am participating in the Finish the Ride and Finish The Run Santa Clarita 2024 event to help support SAFE's vision of a city where everyone can walk, bike, or roll safely. Imagine a place where children can play outside without fear, families can bike to the park confidently, and dangerous drivers are held accountable. This is the future we are working towards.
SAFE's comprehensive approach includes:
- Finish The Ride & Finish The Run: Family-friendly events that promote safe streets and encourage active community participation.
- SAFE Support: The nation’s first support system providing resources and assistance to those affected by traffic collisions.
- Legislative Advocacy: Supporting sensible legislation to create safer roads, including co-sponsoring impactful bills like AB 825 and AB 645.
- Advocacy & Activism: Mobilizing passionate individuals to raise awareness and push for road safety changes.
- Streets, Art, SAFE Film Competition: Empowering high school students to become safety advocates through impactful public service announcements.
- Faith for SAFEr Streets: Engaging faith leaders to advocate for safer streets within their communities.
